Flag of the PSAN

The flag of thre PSAN is red, with the party logo in white. The logo consists of an estelada-like pattern, hammer and sickle, and party name initials, arranged in that order from the hoist to the fly (photo).
A variant of the flag (photo, photo, photo) has the logo superimposed over the outline of the map of Catalan Countries.

The original party flag (poster) was red, with yellow hammer and sickle in the canton and party name initials inscribed next to them in an arc.
There was also another variant, probably unofficial, with black hammer and sickle and party name initials on red field (photo).

Estelada used by the PSAN

Estelada used by the PSAN, two variants - Images by Jorge Candeias, 28 November 1995, and Tomislav Todorović, 13 October 2012

The Estelada with a yellow triangle and a red star is used by Catalan leftist nationalists who propose the creation of an independent Republic of the Catalan Countries containing all Catalan-speaking territories, the so-called Cartaln Countries(Pa•sos Catalans: Catalonia, Valencia, Balearic Islands, Rousillion (France and Alghero (Sardinia, Italy).
The flag was adopted by the PSAN in 1976, after a fraction of the party had left to create the MUM and had retained the old flag of the PSAN (white triangle). This is not the widely accepted flag of the Catalan Countries, which should be the current flag of Catalonia, but an independentist leftist proposal.

The white star is often pointing towards the hoist. The design is obviously more suitable for flags hoisted vertically, as is frequently the case, but there are also many examples of this flag hoisted horizontally (photos).

Rejected proposal for the flag of the PSAN - Image by Tomislav Todorović, 13 July 2014

The flag was chosen as one of two original proposals, the other one being the flag with three red stars on white triangle, which seems to have never been used or have been used for a very short time.

Flag of the MUM - Image by Tomislav Todorović, 12 April 2014

The MUM (Marxist Unification Movement) was a short-lived (1977-1978) leftist and independentist political party in Catalonia. Its flag (sticker, poster) was the estelada with the red star on awhite triangle, very similar to the one used by the Socialist Party of National Liberation.
